LATEST DISCOVERY: Your Brain is Just 2 Megabytes (2MB)
Are you doubting this? Let me explain.
There’s a well-known African story of a poor man who found favor with a king and was given a large sum of money to lift him out of poverty. Yet, after a few sleepless nights, the man returned the money to the king, saying he preferred his former life of begging, as he could no longer find peace. This highlights a truth about our brain's capacity to handle certain resources.
Still doubting? Let’s look at more examples.
Remember when you were a child, excited about wearing your new Christmas clothes? You couldn’t sleep the night before, filled with anticipation. Or when you’re about to receive your paycheck, and despite planning to save, you end up spending most of it, feeling justified by telling yourself, “I didn’t really need much.” That small part you save or invest in an app like Opay gives you a sense of security—but why is that?
It’s because our brain can only handle so much at once, whether it’s excitement, fear, or responsibility.
The Capacity of the Brain:
Imagine the brain as a container, and this container represents our capacity to manage life’s resources—whether it's money, emotions, or responsibilities. The size of this container determines how comfortable we feel with what we have. This idea can even stratify our social classes: the poor, the middle-class, the rich, and the wealthy. Each group’s mindset is reflected by how they handle the overflow in their container.
"Your brain is a container; its size defines how much you can manage, whether it's money, emotions, or responsibilities."
The Poor Mindset:
- -100ml: Comfortably settled in scarcity.
- +10ml: Slight discomfort as more resources enter.
- +50ml: Feels overwhelmed, may overspend, and fall back into scarcity.
- +100ml: Very uncomfortable, leading to wasteful living and a quick return to poverty.
The Middle-Class Mindset:
- -100ml: Uncomfortable with unmet needs.
- +10ml: Feels comfortable, with most needs met.
- +50ml: Begins to feel uneasy, as the urge to spend increases.
- +100ml: Struggles to maintain balance, often reducing back to a more comfortable state.
The Rich Mindset:
- -100ml: Extremely uncomfortable with unmet needs.
- +10ml: Still uncomfortable, pushing to get more.
- +50ml: Continuously seeks growth, never satisfied with just enough.
- +100ml: Comfortable with abundance, yet still driven to maintain overflow.
The Wealthy Mindset:
- -100ml: Deeply uncomfortable, knowing there’s always more to gain.
- +10ml: Restlessly seeking growth.
- +50ml: Continuously adding value and expanding capacity.
- +100ml: Repeats the cycle with additional "containers," creating multiple streams of abundance.
This pattern explains why many who haven’t built their mental capacity beyond a small threshold cannot maintain wealth and often revert back to a poor mindset. This is common in many societies, even among politicians or workers who quickly lose what they’ve gained.
"True wealth isn’t measured by what you have but by how much your mind can manage and multiply."
Expanding Your Mental Capacity
The truth is, you cannot possess all you need for life until you expand your knowledge. The more you know, the more you can manage. As a famous book says, “You can’t partake in the fullness of life without knowledge,” and, “If this knowledge increases, you will never be unproductive or ineffective.”
"The greatest limitation is not lack of resources, but the lack of knowledge to handle them."
Seek to grow your mind, and your capacity will expand beyond 2MB—to infinite possibilities. I am infinite possibilities.
